Hunting Dog Supplies

A good hunting partner can be tough to find, but if you are lucky enough to have a well trained dog you have your partner. There is no other hunting partner that will jump in ice cold water and retrieve ducks and geese, or flush out pheasants. Simply put a good hunting dog is worth their weight in gold. The fact that dogs are very tough animals often masks the fact that they need to be taken care of when hunting. If a dog is not protected with good hunting gear, then your dog could be put in danger. Here are a few different pieces of equipment that you should seriously consider getting your dog.

Vests

Whether you are hunting in corn or in the swamps, your dog's chest and underbelly should be protected. The best way to protect your dog is to get them a vest. You will find that there are many different types of vests. One of the most popular types of vests is a neoprene vest. This is because it protects the dog, but it is also very good at keeping the dog warm. Look for a vest that will keep your dog warm, protect your dog, and that will not restrict your dogs movement.

Dog Box

No matter what season you are hunting in, you will more often than not run into cold weather. It is not good for a dog to be put in a dog box with no insulation. Be sure that you find a dog box that insulates so your dog does not get cold. There are also dog boxes that you can take to your hunting stand. This is especially important for those hunts in the snow. You do not want your dog laying in the snow the entire time you are hunting. Find an insulated dog box that you can take to the blind with you.

Retrieving Guns

There is nothing worse than having a dog that is gun shy. The good news is that you can find many different retrieving guns that will both launch your dummy, but also fire a shot. The dog can get used to the sound of a gun, but also get the retrieving practice that they need. Along with the retrieving gun, look for a dummy that has real feathers. A dog that is not used to the feel of feathers will not retrieve very well.
